History of RBP 78 'Rahabs Scarlet Knights''

This Preceptory was formed on the 13th November 1951.

It is interesting to note, that the warrant of RBP 78 was signed by the then ‘Sovereign Grand Master', Sir Norman Stronge BT, MC, HML who was later to be murdered in his own home by terrorists on the 21st January 1981. The warrant was also signed by Sir Knt Joshua Bell, Deputy Grand Master; and Sir Knt Alex Adair, Co. Grand Master, of Armagh; both of whom where from Portadown.

Derrycarne's first Worshipful Master was Sir Knt William George Creighton. Their encampment is in Derrycarne where they share the Orange Hall with Bible and Crown Defenders LOL with whom they also share their number 78. Their Hall was formerly Derrycarne Schoolhouse a sturdy building, which was opened as a National School in 1891, it is presently being refurbished to a very high standard, when it is completed it will be a credit to all concerned. Derrycarne is situated in the countryside about three miles from Portadown on the Dungannon side.

The Banner which precedes this Preceptory as becomes the title, depicts ‘Rehab' (as in the Bible story) concealing the' Two Spies', whilst on the back is also a beautiful painting of ‘Noah' and the ‘Return of the Dove'.

The Old Banner which the Preceptory has faithfully preserved has similar beautiful paintings

This is a very vibrant Preceptory, and very supportive of Portadown Royal Black District Chapter No 5, although like many Preceptories, their numbers have fallen in recent years, from a high in March 1976 of 61 members.

In 1992 ‘Rahab's scarlet Knights RBP, 78' celebrated its 40 th anniversary with a dinner in the Masonic Hall Portadown.

According to the minutes in June 1993, the Officers of RBP 78 were presented with new Regalia in the form of Collarettes.
