History of RBP 80 'Wm M. Hurst Memorial' - Edenderry

This Preceptory is encamped in Edenderry Orange Hall Portadown. It is one of the most prominent Preceptories in Portadown Royal Black Chapter No 5. Renowned for its excellent turn-out, and deportment when on parade, it sets an example for all to follow.

RBP 80 has played a very important part in the history of Portadown District Chapter: when one looks at it's roll of past Worshipful Masters, it is difficult to single out one who has not been prominent in the Loyal Orders in Portadown .

W.M.Hurst Memorial is one of the best equipped Preceptories in the Institution, to carry out degree work, so much so that the Co Armagh, Annual Conference of Black Lecturers, is held invariably, in Edenderry Orange Hall, where members of RBP 80 are always at hand to lend whatever assistance as is necessary: this is of course very much appreciated by the County Grand Master of Armagh G.B. Chapter, the Grand Lecturer and members of the Irish Examining Board, and all the Lecturing fraternity.

The Warrant for W.N.Hurst Memorial Temperance RBP 80, was issued on the 25th October 1937: The first Worshipful Master being Sir Knt. R. J. Magowan, J.P., O.B.E.

Sir. Knt. Magowan was to give most excellent leadership to the Preceptory until 1968, a total of 41 years.

In 1987 RBP 80 celebrated their 50th anniversary, and a special dinner was held to mark the occasion, special guests at this event, were the Sovereign Grand Master, Sir Knt James Molyneaux and Sir Knt Harold McCusker, M.P.

W.N. Hurst Memorial unfurled their first Banner on the 8th July1938, then another on the 5th May 1962, and the present Banner was unfurled on the 9th July 1990.
